The Innovation Path of CJL Technology in Single-Piece Samarium–Cobalt Magnet Manufacturing

The Innovation Path of CJL Technology in Single-Piece Samarium–Cobalt Magnet Manufacturing

In the high-end segment of the permanent magnet industry, the R&D and production of large-size, high-performance samarium–cobalt (SmCo) magnets have long been constrained by substantial technical barriers, becoming a bottleneck that limits upgrades in many advanced equipment systems. CJL Technology, dedicated to the development and manufacturing of single-piece (monolithic) SmCo magnets, has broken through the core technologies required for large-size fabrication through independent innovation. Today, CJL is among the very few companies worldwide capable of mass-producing ultra-large, single-piece SmCo magnets, redefining industry standards and driving multi-sector development through precise strategic positioning.

Breakthrough in Single-Piece Molding Technology

SmCo magnets, known for their exceptional high-temperature stability and magnetic properties, are ideal for extreme-environment applications. However, as magnet dimensions increase, the requirements for material formulation, molding pressure, and magnetic-field control rise exponentially. Historically, global mass production of single-piece SmCo magnets was limited to small sizes. Large-size products frequently suffered from cracking, internal stress issues, and uneven magnetic performance, leading to stagnation in technical progress. CJL has now successfully resolved these long-standing challenges.

After years of intensive development, CJL has established unique technological barriers in single-piece SmCo magnet manufacturing, achieving global-leading parameters and exclusive supply capabilities:

  • Single-piece dimension along the magnetization direction: 100–200 mm
  • Single-piece dimension perpendicular to the magnetization direction: 100–300 mm
  • Individual magnet weight: no less than 15 kg

These breakthroughs overturn the long-held belief that “SmCo magnets cannot be made large in one piece.”

Despite the significant size increase, the magnets maintain outstanding performance: intrinsic coercivity Hcj ≥ 25 kOe, knee-point coercivity Hk ≥ 16 kOe, and stable long-term operation at 350–550°C. This rare combination of large size + high performance, all achieved in a single non-spliced structure, positions CJL as a global leader in large single-piece SmCo magnets.

CJL’s hardened capability is supported by full-chain mastery—spanning materials research, process design, manufacturing, and final testing. This complete system allows large single-piece magnets to transition from laboratory prototypes to true mass production, marking a major milestone in CJL’s development.

Large Single-Piece Advantages Enable Multi-Sector Applications

CJL’s single-piece large SmCo magnets—combining ultra-large dimensions, high-temperature resistance, and strong magnetic performance—perfectly match the needs of many high-end industries. They enable equipment designs that were previously impossible due to size and assembly limitations, injecting new momentum into industrial upgrading.

Aerospace:
Critical components such as satellite attitude-control systems and missile guidance units must endure extreme space temperature cycles while requiring strict dimensional stability. CJL’s single-piece SmCo magnets eliminate splicing, avoiding magnetic inconsistencies and reliability risks inherent in assembled magnets. With 550°C thermal resistance and 25 kOe coercivity, they are ideal for harsh aerospace operating conditions.

New energy & industrial equipment:
In 800V EV traction motors, large single-piece magnets increase motor power density, reduce assembly parts, and enable more compact, efficient structures. In wind turbines, the magnets’ >350°C thermal resistance addresses high-temperature challenges and extends service intervals. In petrochemical and metallurgical equipment, their ability to operate stably in harsh environments lowers maintenance costs and enhances operational efficiency.

Medical & precision sensing:
MRI systems require large, highly uniform magnetic fields. CJL’s single-piece (non-assembled) SmCo magnets avoid field discontinuities caused by splicing, while Hk ≥ 16 kOe improves imaging accuracy. In high-precision magnetic sensors, stable magnetic-field output ensures reliable measurement, supporting advancements in medical diagnostics and industrial inspection.
